Master of the World,
Every journey begins with a first step, every climb
with the first rung. If I can not yet begin the
journey, at least let me turn my eyes and direct my
heart to the right direction.
–Lee Weisssman, prayer for Elul 1
It is far better to grasp the universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

So Oracle has basically been bitchslapped by the FTC for misleading consumers when it comes to the security implications of running outdated versions of their software.
One more task for the geeks doing everyone’s tech support this holiday season. Update their versions of Java, and uninstall the old ones.

I am God’s creature and my fellow is
God’s creature. My work is in the town and
his work is in the country. I rise early for my
work and he rises early for his work. Just as
he does not presume to do my work, so I do
not presume to do his work. Will you say, I
do much and he does little? We have
learnt: One may do much or one may do
little; it is all one, provided he directs his
heart to heaven.
–Babylonian Talmud, Berakhot 17B
“The secret to happiness and vitality is to be more rather than to have more.”
