23% done with Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. I said I was going to finish this series, and I still intend to do that, but yeah definitely not going on the reread pile and I certainly don’t understand why it got all the hype it did.
It’s in part what I refer to as the star wars problem. You go back and read the original of something and it’s just like meh, what was the point? Hunger games wasn’t the original, but was the first popular one I can think of.
I think what saddens me most about the Hunger Games is that it could have been a lot more … riveting. There’s so much you could do with the idea, even ten years ago.
There’s so much potential in the central idea of this and she just … wastes it. I’m going to have to reread some Tom Clancy or Clive Kussler after this to recover.
Because 10 years ago, it was a mostly new idea.
