According to the Blog Herald, which sources Search Engine Journal, Newscorp has begun dispatching cease-and-desist letters to various Myspace-supporting sites, sites that offer graphics, layouts, and other goodies to loyal Myspace users.
One site, MySpaceCity.com has been asked to shut down the site and turn the domain over to Newscorp.
Most of these sites make it a point to differentiate themselves from MySpace, so why the bullying?
Probably because MySpace has announced its own selection of bells and whistles for the site, including downloadable video, VOIP, and IM, which they hope will become the center of their new social media web empire.
I guess when you’re that big, you can afford to bite feeding hands, but given this kind of heavy-handed tactic-use, MySpace will most likely lose out to other services very quickly.
